Key Systems enable incoming and outgoing lines to be accessed by depressing a handset key.
The system allows for voice communications between internal and external callers. The system are designed to allow customers to fully utilise the services provided by the carrier and allow internal communications to take place without the need for call charges.
The extensions were are mostly 2 wire working; using 1 pair to provide all communication and power feeding between the extension and the main equipment.
Users making outgoing calls from a Key System will directly select the outgoing line required. If you look at a Key System, the telephone line appear on a series of buttons.
The bottom line is, when you are making a call you simply select one of the buttons and dial the required number, however when you receive a call you simply lift the handset and press the flashing line. These systems are often used by receptionists.
Key Systems advantages over the PABX system is that they offer a variety of handsets, ranging from standard on the hook telephone to the latest LCD models with hands free extra's.
