There is a range of legislation in place that requires workplace electrical equipment to be safe. Quality Electrics has the expertise to perform testing and tagging of electrical equipment.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act 1984 requires that electrical equipment at workplaces be safe and not expose workers to hazards.

All public places must comply with the AS/NZS 3760:2003 and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 1996.

Managers must ensure that all electrical equipment which is designed for connection by a flexible cord is subject to an in-service safety inspection and test in accordance with the AS/NZS 3760:2003.

No portable equipment of any kind should be used unless tested, passed and has security tagging.

A record of all test results shall be recorded and remain on the premises.

Typical items classed as portable are listed below:

• Extension cords • Computers • Monitors
• Computer Printers • Heaters • Photocopiers
• Fax Machines • Laptop Trolleys • Kitchen Equipment
• Portable Outlet Devices • Portable RCDs • Isolation Transformers
• Power tools • Pedestal fans

The frequency of testing and tagging is as defined in AS/NZS 3760:2003 and depends on the class of equipment and its area of use. The electrical testing and tagging time intervals can be viewed by clicking on this link.

We recommend a yearly inspection and test be carried out at your premises with equipment security tagging along with RCD testing being carried out at the same time.

Here is a typical reason why "test and tagging" should be in place (photo below)

Results of all testing & tagging inspections need to be kept in a log book, based on the standard form, and which will remain in the possession of the appropriate personnel for inspection at any time.

We recommend all test reports be kept in a lockable wall mounted cabinet fixed onsite at a suitable location.

All equipment that has been tested in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2003 will be identified by a visible and durable tag.

Colour coded tags can be used to indicate the frequency of testing.
