Hz is the standard abbreviation for hertz.
Frequency is measured in 'hertz'. One hertz is defined as one cycle per second, so an object fluxuating back and forth at sixty revolutions per minute (RPM) has a frequency of one hertz.
Hertz can be measured using a frequency oscilloscope. There are some familiar definitions about 'hertz' you hear ever day on your radio such as a kilohertz (kHz) is one thousands hertz, or maybe you'll here the dj say they are broadcasting on some megahertz (MHz) signal which is one million hertz.
Some interesting facts:-
- The frequency of the human heart is around 1Hz,
- Human hearing ranges between 20Hz and 16,000Hz.
- The household power supply is usually 50Hz, however, this does vary...
- AM radio waves are in kilohertz, and FM radio waves are in megahertz.,
